Dr. Jaco Strobos is more than just the founder of Magalies Brewing Company – he is a man driven by passion in every aspect of his life. A husband, father, trusted surgeon, and now, master brewer, Dr. Jaco has spent his life perfecting the art of helping others and embracing new challenges. After earning his medical degree from the University of Pretoria, he specialized in orthopaedics at the University of the Free State, eventually opening a private practice where he’s helped countless patients regain mobility.
In 2002, Dr. Jaco found his calling in the intricate world of shoulder surgery, becoming an internationally recognized expert in the field. Over two decades, he’s performed more than 15,000 surgeries, improving the lives of patients while constantly pushing the boundaries of medical innovation.
But Dr. Jaco’s passion extends beyond the operating room. During the pandemic, he channeled his creative energy into beer brewing, driven by the same precision and dedication he applies to surgery. This passion project blossomed into Magalies Brewing Company, where he now shares his love of finely crafted beer with South Africa. Whether in surgery or brewing, Dr. Jaco’s commitment to excellence and desire to inspire those around him sets him apart as a true legend behind the beer.
When he’s not brewing or in the operating room, you’ll find him enjoying a glass of wine at Kleine Constantia, working on his golf swing, or indulging in his love for woodwork and his extensive train collection.
With over three decades of brewing expertise, Jörg Finkeldey is the master brewer behind the extraordinary beers at Magalies Brewing Company. A Brewing Engineer since 1990, Jorg’s career has taken him across the globe, brewing everything from traditional German beers to innovative craft styles in countries like Germany, the USA, Japan, South Africa, Costa Rica, and more. His diverse international experience makes him uniquely qualified to bring a world-class touch to the beers he brews today.
Jorg’s brewing philosophy is simple: the best beer comes from a combination of tradition, high-quality ingredients, and a deep respect for the brewing process. Having worked in a variety of brewing environments – from large-scale operations to small microbreweries – Jorg brings unparalleled technical skill and passion to his craft.
Currently based in Mauritius, Jorg collaborates with Magalies Brewing Company to create beers that reflect the best of German brewing heritage. Every brew he crafts carries his signature attention to detail and a commitment to excellence that is reflected in the unique and complex flavors of Magalies beers.
